I purchased a 4 cylinder GEO 1.3L motor to use for the thrust engine.  It will power a 54" wood prop that will be inside a 54" duct.  The motor is rated at 80 HP @ 6000 RPM.  It will seldom see that RPM I suspect.  I was originally going to use a 25 HP Kohler but the GEO was a good deal.  It is unused in the crate.  Of course, I now need to make a steel motor mount and I do not know how to weld. Oh well.
The 48" thrust duct is cut to a cylinder shape generally.  I will still have to shape the inlet and taper the outside of the duct.  I have not figured out how to do that quite yet.  But I am not that far along yet either.
The wood 54/50 propeller with 1 1/8 dia mounting hole.  It was made by Rob Tilton.
Decided to go with a 54" duct so I will trade the 48" duct foam for a 54" duct.  The 54" foam block is VERY large!  Still have to figure out how to shape the inlet and taper it. This is a picture of the 54" duct foam.
April 13, 2003.  Went to Rob Tilton's house to balance the prop.  Rob made the prop and traded to to someone else.  I worked a deal for the prop but it had acquired a layer of epoxy that unbalanced it.  Rob helped me bring it back into balance.
I will still have to add two layers of FG and then paint the prop.
